The community impact of Phoenix Karate School in Great Yarmouth
A Great Yarmouth Sport & Leisure Trust grant is helping Phoenix Karate School’s competitive squad prepare for the European Championships – supporting a club that provides valuable opportunities for local people to get and stay active.
Phoenix Karate School is an important part of Great Yarmouth’s sporting community, giving local people the opportunity to take part in karate, develop new skills and enjoy the benefits of regular physical activity.
The club’s competitive squad has recently returned from the World Championships with an impressive 17 medals, including four golds. In October, the team will travel to Sheffield for the European Championships, representing Phoenix and Great Yarmouth on the international stage.
The GYSLT grant is helping the squad prepare for the championships by providing new tracksuits, supporting the young competitors as they travel and compete as a team.
But Phoenix’s impact reaches much further than its competitive squad.

Helping people get and stay active
Local clubs can make a real difference to how people engage with physical activity. They provide a regular place to take part, develop skills, meet others and work towards personal goals.
Phoenix gives people the opportunity to discover karate and progress at their own pace. For some, it can simply be an enjoyable way to keep fit and active. For others, it can develop into a passion for competition, with the potential to progress from local training to national and international championships.
For young people, being part of a club can also help build confidence, discipline and resilience alongside physical fitness.

On behalf of the students and parents of Phoenix Karate Schools, we would like to say a huge thank you to the Great Yarmouth Sports and Leisure Trust for their generous £500 donation.
This fantastic support will allow us to refresh our Phoenix Karate Schools squad tracksuits, which our students proudly wear when representing Kanzen Karate England and the Great Yarmouth area at major national and international competitions.For our young athletes, wearing matching squad kit is about much more than just looking smart. It gives them a real sense of pride, belonging and team spirit, while helping them feel confident when competing on the national and international stage.
It also means that wherever our students compete, they are proudly representing Phoenix Karate Schools and our local community.
We are incredibly grateful to the Trust for supporting our young athletes and helping us give them the opportunity to compete, achieve and represent Great Yarmouth with pride.
