Removing barriers, unlocking potential
At Great Yarmouth Sport & Leisure Trust, we believe talent should never be limited by circumstance.
Our individual and club grants are designed to remove financial barriers and give local people the opportunity to thrive in sport and physical activity.
Recently, local runner Alfie Bone received his second GYSLT grant to support his athletics journey - a powerful example of how targeted funding can make a real difference.
From Local Streets to National Rankings
Training daily around Gorleston, Alfie has worked his way to 9th in the UK in his age group and has been accepted onto the England Athletics Youth Talent Programme.
His grant will fund essential running shoes, helping him remain injury free at a critical stage in his development. For young athletes competing at this level, the right equipment is not a luxury, it’s essential.
But his story is about more than performance. It’s about what happens when potential is supported.
Creating Opportunity Close to Home
We know that many families across Great Yarmouth are balancing rising costs. Talented young people shouldn’t miss out because of financial pressure.
Recent grant recipient Alfie Bone is one example of how targeted support can help local athletes continue striving towards national and international standards. His journey highlights what’s possible when determination is matched with community backing.
But our grants aren’t only for high-performing athletes. They are just as vital for grassroots clubs, inclusive activity groups and youth projects that keep people active, connected and confident.
