Alfie Bone Receives GYSLT Grant to Support Athletics Dream

A Boost for a Rising Local Athlete

The Great Yarmouth Sport & Leisure Trust grant is delighted to congratulate local runner Alfie Bone on being awarded a GYSLT grant.

Alfie trains daily around Gorleston, with Crohill Green offering opportunities for cross country sessions, building the strength and endurance required to compete nationally. His dedication is paying off as he is currently ranked 9th in the UK in his age group and has been accepted onto the England Athletics Youth Talent Programme.

This latest grant will go towards specialist running shoes designed to help him stay injury free and perform at his best during races and key training sessions.

Why the Right Equipment Matters

At this stage in Alfie’s development, consistency is crucial. Competing at a national level means marginal gains make a real difference and so does protecting against injury.

The grant will help fund performance racing trainers and supportive training shoes, giving Alfie the best possible platform to continue breaking personal bests and competing with the country’s top young athletes.

Hard Work Behind the Scenes

Alfie works part-time as a lifeguard, using his wages to cover training costs, nutrition and kit. He also comes from a low-income family, where his mum and step-dad support him and his six siblings while helping him pursue his athletics ambitions.

This grant eases some of that financial pressure and allows him to focus on what matters most - training and competing.

Inspired to Inspire

As a young athlete, Alfie remembers meeting Sophie McKinna and seeing her Great Britain vest up close. That moment stayed with him and made elite sport feel possible.

Now, Alfie hopes to have that same impact on children growing up in Norfolk and Great Yarmouth, proving that talent from this area can compete on the national and international stage.

Everyone at Great Yarmouth Sport & Leisure Trust wishes Alfie every success as he continues his journey towards representing England and, one day, Great Britain.
