A Welcome Boost for a Local Community Hub
We’re excited to share that The Bread Kitchen has received a grant from the Great Yarmouth Sport & Leisure Trust (GYSLT) to help them create a brand-new pétanque and wider games area.
This support will give the local community a fun, safe space to get active, socialise, and enjoy themselves, adding another dimension to the amazing work the Bread Kitchen already does.

About The Bread Kitchen
Founded in 2016 by Mike and Cathy, The Bread Kitchen is an award-winning community training provider based on a 4.5-acre site in Cobholm, Great Yarmouth.
They deliver programmes in gardening, animal care, volunteering, English and Maths, and life skills for people of all ages.
Their “Good to Grow” ethos helps participants learn, grow, and thrive in a supportive, inclusive environment.
What Is Pétanque?
Pétanque is a low-impact, social French game where players throw metal balls toward a small wooden target ball called the jack. Played on sand or gravel, it’s suitable for all ages and abilities, making it perfect for community participation.
The game promotes light movement, coordination, balance and teamwork, all while encouraging friendly competition and social interaction.
How the Grant Will Help
The funding will cover sand, gravel, and tools to prepare the playing area. The impact of this addition is significant: older residents and those less active can enjoy gentle exercise, confidence can grow through participation and the community gains a safe, accessible space to meet, play and connect.
Looking Ahead
With this new pétanque and games area, The Bread Kitchen continues to build on its outstanding community work. The grant ensures even more residents can connect, get active, and enjoy fun, healthy participation. We can’t wait to see the community making the most of this new space and all the positive energy it will bring.
