Division One ambition for Martham Cricket Club

We’re delighted to support Martham Cricket Club with funding for roll-on pitch covers, which will help the team gain promotion to Division One leagues.

The local village team has gone from strength to strength and works hard to continually improve club facilities. With over 70 members, two adult teams and three youth teams, Martham Cricket Club have just achieved ECB Club Accreditation, with their first team top of the league. In order to be considered for promotion to Division One, the club needs to protect the wicket with roll-on covers. The pitch covers will ensure the ground is protected, enabling teams to play throughout the season, even in poor weather.

The club plays an important part in the local community and aims to keep growing, reaching the wider community, providing opportunities for more people to play recreational cricket in a safer environment, with better facilities for prospective players.

Every penny helps this community club to continue to thrive, growing youth links in particular. Such a generous donation from a respected local business is a fabulous gesture - appreciated by all associated with MCC, thank you.“ Kelly Spencer, Hon. Treasurer.

We wish Martham Cricket Club every success for the future and look forward to seeing their progress along the way.

Local cricket club has new sights set on accreditation

We’re pleased to support Martham Cricket Club, with lightweight and moveable sight screens, to help them improve their facilities.

The small village cricket club has two first teams and a thriving youth set-up for the under 9s, under 11s and under 13s. The club plays an important part in the local community, with training and playing at Martham Playing Field, and sharing its changing rooms with local Martham Football Teams.

The club is working hard to achieve ECB Clubmark accreditation, to show the club is ‘sustainable, well run and provides the right environment for its members.’ It also means the ‘club is recognised as a safe, rewarding and fulfilling place for participants of all ages, as well as assuring parents and carers that they are choosing the right option for their young people.’ The England and Wales Cricket Board

The grant will be used to replace sight screens which were damaged in high winds and, as a condition in achieving ECB Clubmark accreditation, the club is replacing the screens with new moveable and lightweight sight screens.

A hard-working cricket club with 30 plus members is the latest recipient of our grant scheme.

The roof before being redone

The grant is to help cover repairs to the equipment container roof which is leaking due to corrosion. This will help protect and maintain all of the club’s equipment, including groundwork equipment such as mowers, scarifier, line marking equipment, stumps, flags and rakes, as well as clothing, helmets, pads, gloves and training gear.

By fitting a new roof, essential equipment will be maintained for the next 10+ years. Furthermore, being able to store and maintain equipment in a dry environment, cricket can be played in the village for both youth and adults alike in terms of training, coaching and matches, for years to come.

Like so many, this year has been the most difficult to date for the club. They have worked hard for what they have, and while income has dropped considerably, along with their ability to raise funds through events such as quiz evenings and sponsorship, the last thing they need is to have to replace all of the training, match and ground working equipment due to water damage.

“As you can see from the before and after photos, the container roof repair has been a great success. it's a vast improvement. Without the support from the Great Yarmouth Sports and Leisure Trust, we would not have been able to carry out this work in this difficult and unprecedented time. This project enables us to protect and maintain the extensive equipment required to run a cricket club. It is the hope that when this returns to normal, the people of Caister and beyond will be able to come and join us in what we believe to be the world's greatest sport. Thanks again for your help and support.” Michael Church, Club Captain, Child Welfare Officer and Coach.

Winterton Cricket Club receives our latest grant

Winterton Cricket Club receives our latest grant.

We are delighted to announce our latest grant recipient: Winterton Cricket Club!

The club has operated for over 30 years, offering competitive and friendly cricketing opportunities to residents. Usually operating two adult teams and a ladies team at the weekend, the club plays league and friendly fixtures, as well as two junior teams during the week. In recent years the club has grown significantly, with over 75 adults members and around 20 juniors, bucking the trend of local participation for many clubs.

Providing these opportunities in a small, rural catchment is crucial because sport in the local area has declined. However, the club has managed to become sustainable and grow its ladies and junior sections.

'The funds will have an instant and long term positive impact on our club,' said Ben Utting, Chairman of the Cricket Club. "Helping to fund a batting cage that can be transported onto the club's pitch to increase participation in netting and practice sessions for the ladies, adult and junior teams, who will train with specialist coaches. It is a galvanised steel cage with netting, that allows for safe and secure practice, instead of the netting currently used (which was sadly subject to vandalism)."

The grant will help increase the number of practice sessions, encouraging more people to attend in a safe and secure environment for players of all ages and ability to participate.
